Overview
Pharmasave Sage Hill is a full-service community pharmacy developed within the Grace Medical Clinic facility at Sage Hill Crossing in northwest Calgary. Operating as a purpose-designed fit-out integrated within the larger clinic, the pharmacy program includes a retail dispensary with dedicated prescription drop-off and pick-up stations, a blister-packaging counter, secure narcotics storage with a time-delay drug safe, and a Level C sterile compounding room designed to meet NAPRA standards for non-hazardous sterile preparations.
Design Challenge
The central technical challenge was designing a Level C sterile compounding facility within a retail pharmacy footprint, meeting the rigorous NAPRA model standards for non-hazardous compounding: ventilated containment hoods, controlled airflow, cleanable surfaces, and clear separation of compounding from general dispensing — all within the constraints of a leased commercial space and the broader clinic development timeline.
Design Response
The pharmacy layout was planned around workflow efficiency and patient privacy, with plexi privacy screens at consultation points, controlled staff circulation, and direct adjacency to the medical clinic for seamless prescription handoff. The compounding room was mechanically coordinated to provide the required ventilation, pressurization, and exhaust conditions. The design carries the warm wood, black, and brass material palette of the broader Grace Medical Clinic, giving the pharmacy a refined retail presence while fully meeting the technical demands of a compounding operation.
